Composition:

Lidocaine IP 100mg ethanol IP 30.4% v/v flav base q.s

Indication:

Used as a topical anesthetic spray for temporary numbing of the mouth, throat, or pharyngeal region before dental and minor medical procedures. Helps reduce pain, discomfort, and gag reflex.

Description:

This preparation is a topical anesthetic and antiseptic solution, combining Lidocaine with Ethanol in a flavoured base.

  • Lidocaine (100mg): A local anesthetic that blocks nerve signals, providing temporary relief from pain, burning, or itching.

  • Ethanol (30.4% v/v): Acts as an antiseptic with antibacterial action, preventing infection at the site of application.

  • Flavoured Base (q.s.): Enhances patient compliance by masking strong taste/smell, often used in oral or topical formulations.

This formulation is generally used in minor oral mucosal pain, dental procedures, sore throat, or local irritation relief. It offers fast numbing action along with antiseptic benefits.

Usage Information

Dosage

Apply locally 2–3 times daily, or as prescribed. Use a cotton swab or apply directly to the affected area. Do not swallow large amounts; for topical/oral mucosal use only.

Side Effects

Mild burning or tingling at application site. Rare: allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling). Excessive use may cause systemic lidocaine toxicity (dizziness, drowsiness).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Lidocaine or other local anesthetics. Patients with severe liver disease. Avoid use in large areas of damaged mucosa. Not recommended in infants without prescription.
