Description:
Ketoconazole 2% w/w is a broad-spectrum topical antifungal agent used for the treatment of fungal and yeast infections of the skin. It belongs to the imidazole class of antifungals, which works by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis—an essential component of fungal cell membranes—leading to the elimination of the fungal pathogen.
This formulation is effective in treating:
Tinea infections (ringworm, jock itch, athlete’s foot)
Seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff, flaky scalp)
Cutaneous candidiasis
Pityriasis versicolor (skin discoloration due to yeast)

Usage Information
Dosage
For Cream Application: Apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily Clean and dry the area before application Continue use for 2–4 weeks, even after symptoms subside, as advised For Shampoo Use (Scalp Conditions): Apply to wet scalp, lather, and leave for 3–5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly Use twice a week for 2–4 weeks, then reduce frequency as maintenance ⚠️ Use as directed by a physician. For external use only.
Side Effects
Ketoconazole is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include: Mild burning, redness, or itching at the site Dryness or irritation (especially on the scalp) Contact dermatitis (rare) Hair texture changes or oiliness (for shampoo use)
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or other imidazoles Do not use on broken or inflamed skin Avoid eye contact; rinse immediately with water if contact occurs Not recommended for children under 12 years without medical advice Avoid prolonged use on large surface areas
