Brivaracetam 50 mg is a prescription antiepileptic drug indicated for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in patients with epilepsy, aged 16 years and older. It is a high-affinity ligand of synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A), which modulates neurotransmitter release and reduces neuronal hyperexcitability.
Compared to older treatments like Levetiracetam, Brivaracetam often offers improved tolerability with fewer behavioral side effects. It is effective both as monotherapy or in adjunctive therapy and has a rapid onset of action.
