Acamprosate Calcium 333mg
Indication:
therapy to maintain abstinence in alcohol-dependent patients
Description:
Acamprosate Calcium 333 mg is a medication used in the maintenance of abstinence in alcohol-dependent patients who have already stopped drinking. It works by restoring the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly by modulating glutamate and GABA activity disrupted by chronic alcohol consumption.
Acamprosate does not prevent withdrawal symptoms or reduce cravings immediately. Instead, it helps maintain long-term abstinence when combined with counseling or psychosocial support.
It is not addictive and does not cause a "high," making it suitable for long-term use in alcohol rehabilitation programs.
