Description:
Torasemide is a potent loop diuretic used for the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome, and renal impairment. It promotes the excretion of sodium, chloride, and water by inhibiting their reabsorption in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidneys.
The 100 mg dosage is generally reserved for patients requiring strong diuretic therapy to manage severe fluid retention. Torasemide offers longer duration of action and better bioavailability compared to furosemide, making it effective for controlling fluid overload and hypertension.
