Complicated skin infections, Bloodstream infections, Meningitis, Bone & joint infections, Endocarditis

Description:

Vancomycin Hydrochloride 500 mg is a glycopeptide antibiotic primarily used to treat serious Gram-positive bacterial infections, including those caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of susceptible bacteria.

This injectable antibiotic is administered intravenously for systemic infections such as:

  • Severe bloodstream infections (bacteremia)

  • Pneumonia, including hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated

  • Endocarditis

  • Bone and joint infections

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Clostridioides difficile colitis (oral form only)

Vancomycin 500 mg is often used in hospitalized patients requiring potent antibiotic therapy and is dosed based on patient weight and kidney function.

Usage Information

Dosage
