Indication:

Description:

Azithromycin 500 mg is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth and multiplication of bacteria.

Azithromycin is commonly prescribed for conditions such as:

  • Pharyngitis, tonsillitis

  • Bronchitis and pneumonia

  • Sinusitis

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Chlamydia and other STIs

This tablet is usually taken once daily, offering convenience and effective coverage with a short treatment course.

Usage Information

Dosage

Typical adult dose: 500 mg once daily for 3 to 5 days STIs (e.g., Chlamydia): Single 1g dose (2 tablets of 500 mg) Take with or without food Swallow whole with water. Do not skip doses.

Common: Nausea Diarrhea Stomach pain Headache Less common/serious: Liver enzyme elevation Irregular heartbeat (QT prolongation) Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing) Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea

Contraindications

Known allergy to Azithromycin or other macrolides History of liver disease due to Azithromycin Use with caution in patients with heart rhythm disorders Not recommended with certain antacids (aluminum or magnesium-containing)
