Artemether is a lipid-soluble artemisinin derivative that acts quickly against malaria parasites in the bloodstream. It is administered intramuscularly when oral therapy is not feasible due to vomiting, unconsciousness, or severity of infection.
Artemether provides rapid parasite clearance and symptom relief, and it is often followed by a full course of oral Artemisinin Combination Therapy (ACT) once the patient is stabilized.
