Description:

Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200mg DT is an oral cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. This medication works by disrupting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, effectively killing the bacteria. Cefpodoxime is commonly used to treat respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and skin infections.

  • Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Usage Information

Dosage

Adults and Children over 12 years: Typically, the recommended dose is 200 mg (1 tablet) twice daily. Children (6 months to 12 years): The dose depends on the child’s weight and the severity of the infection. Consult your pediatrician for the appropriate dose. For UTI: 200 mg every 12 hours for 7–10 days, or as prescribed by your healthcare provider. For respiratory infections: 200 mg every 12 hours for 5–7 days or as directed by your doctor. Dissolve the dispersible tablet in a small amount of water (e.g., 10–20 mL) before taking it.

Side Effects

Common side effects: Diarrhea, nausea, headache, and dizziness. Less common: Abdominal pain, rash, and allergic reactions. Serious side effects: Severe allergic reactions (swelling of face/lips, difficulty breathing), severe diarrhea, yellowing of skin/eyes, and unusual tiredness. Rare: Liver problems, low white blood cell count, and blood in urine.

Contraindications

Allergy to Cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, or any component of the product. Severe renal impairment: Use with caution or avoid in severe kidney problems. History of allergic reactions to penicillin: If you have had severe reactions to penicillin, inform your doctor before taking Cefpodoxime. Pregnancy: Cefpodoxime is generally considered safe during pregnancy, but it should be used only when clearly needed. Consult your doctor. Breastfeeding: Cefpodoxime is excreted in breast milk; consult your healthcare provider before using if breastfeeding.
