Description:

Moxifloxacin 400 mg is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial replication. This mechanism effectively eliminates both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including atypical pathogens.

It is commonly prescribed for:

  • Respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia, bronchitis)

  • Sinusitis

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Intra-abdominal infections

Moxifloxacin offers once-daily oral dosing, high tissue penetration, and is well-tolerated in most patients.

Usage Information

Dosage

Recommended Dose: 400 mg tablet once daily Duration: Usually 5 to 14 days, depending on the infection type and severity Take at the same time daily, with or without food Do not skip or double doses Avoid dairy or mineral supplements close to dosing time

Side Effects

Common: Nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache Uncommon: QT prolongation (heart rhythm changes), liver enzyme elevation Rare: Tendon rupture, hypersensitivity reactions, hallucinations Seek immediate help if experiencing chest pain, severe rash, or tendon pain

Contraindications

Allergy to Moxifloxacin or other fluoroquinolones History of QT prolongation or cardiac arrhythmias Myasthenia gravis (may worsen symptoms) Children, pregnant or breastfeeding women unless advised by a healthcare provider Concurrent use with antiarrhythmic drugs should be avoided
